9 is a total rewrite...and while it has had issues they aren't the deluge
that plagued early BIND 4.

And to respond to your other message, I don't find the BIND9 configuration
particularly hard to deal with.  (It's easier than BIND4 was.)  But I do
keep a recent DNS & BIND (Albitx & Liu) handy.
